We feel that today, more than ever, experiential learning programs are invaluable for young people.
They highlight the need for social responsibility and create an environment where the consequences for actions are very real. Living away from the distractions of an urban environment can also provide profoundly moving experiences with moments of pure inspiration and reflection.
The natural environment allows us to create a unique experiential learning framework for students to be challenged on many levels because it is
- A concentrated cause and effect environment where you must take responsibility for yourself and issues must be resolved as they arise
- A place of separation from everyday distractions
- A place of natural interplay between the student, the environment and others in their group.
Three main philosophies underpin all our programs;
- Challenge by Choice
- No Put Downs
- Taking Personal Responsibility for Yourself and Your Actions.
We accept risk as a positive part of our programs. We use the perceived risk a student feels as a tool for them to develop strategies to identify and respond appropriately to the risks they will face throughout life. Our risk management measures are extensive and we are always striving to achieve best practice.
To manage risk every one of our programs is well staffed with a Program Manager, 24 hour contact, and a minimum of 2 qualified group staff (Wilderness First Aid training + technical qualifications) are with the group at all times.
We have additional skills instructors for technical activities and excellent program resources including technical equipment, food, communication tools (satellite & mobile phones, plus UHF radio where applicable), 4WD vehicles, first aid kits and post program evaluation from both our staff and accompanying client staff.
Our first priority is to take care of every participant and ensure they have a positive experience. We employ professional staff experienced in outdoor education and adventure based learning who utilise recognised Australian and International standards for safety practices and equipment.
We combine this with an adventure-based program that has been specifically designed to meet the outcomes and objectives of each client group.
All Explorus activities employ the principles of Leave No Trace. Our activities can be standalone or linked in a journey-based program.
They include; expeditions, bushwalking, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, canoeing, high and low ropes courses, surfing, Project Adventure games and initiatives, bush art, and orienteering and navigation exercises.
